A Colorado hut trip should be on everyones bucket list. Whether you are looking to explore one hut, connect multiple, tour long distances, or ride powder our Featured Hut Trips showcase some of our favorite routes and terrain in the hut system. Featured Hut Trips are pre-scheduled and open to individuals or groups willing to join others on a winter backcountry adventure. The Jackal Hut

What You Get

  • Guides: Maximum participant to guide ratio of 3:1 
  • Pre-Trip Orientation Meeting: 1 – 2 hour meeting the day PRIOR to your trip to discuss logistics, gear, and expectations at our shop.
  • Half-Day Tour: An opportunity to familiarize yourself with your guide, gear, and touring skills. This takes place AFTER the orientation meeting.
  • Transportation: Our fleet of vehicles will be available for trailhead shuttles.
  • Trip meals: Quality food prepared by guides and willing participants served family-style. Beer and wine are stocked and available at each hut.
  • Reduced pack weight: Sleeping bags and dry food are already cached at each hut to save you weight.

Colorado Trail Traverse

  • January 9th – January 11th, 2018
  • 3 days, 2 nights
  • Difficulty – Moderate
  • The tour from the 10th Mountain Division Memorial hut to Uncle Buds via the Colorado Trail is one of the most serene and remote stretches of terrain in the system. The 7 mile jaunt between these two huts serves up an appropriate challenge for even the

The Interconnect

  • January 15th – January 19th, 2018
  • 5 days, 4 nights
  • Difficulty – Hard
  • This demanding ski tour travels through the western side of the hut system starting in Vail and ending in Aspen. We begin at the Estin hut and head south to the Gates hut, located in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. The third night finds us at the Diamond J Ranch for some well deserved rest and a shower. Then we tour to Margy’s hut and enjoy the amazing views of the Elk Range before finishing up in Aspen on the final day.

Colorado Haute Route

  • February 5th – February 9th, 2018
  • 5 days, 4 nights – Jackal, Jackal, Fowler, Shrine
  • Difficulty – Moderate
  • This trip explores the southern tip of the Gore Range, utilizing three different huts which provide access to some of the best ski terrain in the hut system. We begin at the historic training grounds of the 10th Mountain Division soliders, Camp Hale. A layover day will be spent at the Jackal hut skiing and acclimating. We then head North for a night at the recently remodeled Fowler-Hillard hut before ending at the accommodating Shrine Mountain Inn on Vail Pass.

The Classic

  • February 21th – February 23rd, 2018
  • 3 days, 2 nights – Eiseman, Eiseman
  • Difficulty – Moderate
  • This “classic” Paragon trip heads into the Eiseman hut high in the Gore Range. Eiseman is rustic, spacious, and wonderfully situated above gladed terrain offering excellent tree skiing off the porch. If your looking to do your first hut trip or a last minute weekend getaway, look no further.

Aspen Connection

  • March 6th – March 9th, 2018
  • 4 days, 3 nights – Margy’s, Margy’s, McNamara
  • Difficulty – Moderate
  • Built in 1982, Margy’s and McNamara were the first two huts in the 10th Mountain system. They offer varied ski and snowboard terrain with access to Mt. Eckel and Bald Knob. The tour on day three to McNamara offers a rewarding challenge traveling through remote spruce and pine forest. A guide favorite, the Aspen connection is one of the oldest routes in the system.

Bud’s Ski Mountaineering Clinic

  • April 9th – April 11th
  • 3 days, 2 nights – Uncle Bud’s, Uncle Bud’s
  • Difficulty – Hard
  • Spring skiing in the Rocky Mountains is a right of passage for any backcountry skier. Learn the skills you need to assess a spring snowpack, climb couloirs, and ski from the top of a peak. This three day clinic takes place at Uncle Bud’s hut offering access into the Galena Mountain cirque and the famous Rabbit Ears Couloir.
